A Graceful City Centre Wedding At The Merchant Hotel Belfast
Rachel + Nathan’s Merchant Hotel Belfast Wedding
HIGHLIGHTS FILM
Tell us all about you! What do you do? How do you spend your free time? What's important in life?
We've been together now for 12 years, engaged for 4 of those, so have grown up together. We met at the Dundonald Ice Bowl at 14 and have been inseparable ever since. After our first holiday together in Greece when we were 18, we were hooked, and now love nothing more than jetting off to a new location and exploring new cultures. We also both work as developers, Rachel as a software developer for Citi, and Nathan as a web developer for Eyekiller. After work, you'll normally find us on the sofa binge-watching tv shows, or planning our next trip. We are both really close with our families, so we are very much looking forward to having everyone together again.
Why did you decide to capture your Merchant Hotel wedding on video?
We want to have something to look back on in years to come. We are also looking forward to seeing anything we may have missed during the day, and how our guests are enjoying themselves.
Why did you choose Amber Tree Filmhouse to film your wedding?
We both love the style of video, including the voiceovers from speeches and the candid nature of the footage.

Tell me all about the proposal! Spare no detail, I want to hear it all!
In April 2017 we planned a second trip to Paris. Paris was one of the first cities we visited and both fell in love with it instantly. We went for a walk along the River Seine to where the love lock bridge was and this is where it happened. There were areas of the bridge where couples would sign a padlock, lock it to the bridge and throw the key into the river, symbolising eternal love. At this moment, Nathan revealed an engraved padlock with the words "Rachel, will you marry me?". Attempting to avoid any public embarrassment, Rachel's immediate reaction was "Please don't get on one knee!" followed by a yes. We then decided that we wouldn't tell anybody until we got home so we spent the rest of the trip, including a day at Disneyland, hiding the ring in pictures so that people weren't suspicious. Rachel's best friend and maid of honour had been with Nathan to buy the ring so she knew it was happening, but because of the strategic photos had no idea if he had actually gone through with it. The first thing we did on arriving home was visited family one by one and told them the news. They couldn't have been happier for us. And so our wedding journey began. 4 years, 3 postponements and a global pandemic later, we've finally made it.
Why did you choose the Merchant Hotel as your venue? What made it special to you?
As you know, we originally had another venue booked, The Wool Tower in Ballymena. We felt that we had seen every hotel in Northern Ireland, but we had missed one. We decided to visit The Merchant and immediately knew it was the one. We enquired with The Merchant and they even had the same date available. It was meant to be. We love the elegance of the hotel, and all round feel when walking around it. We also fell in love with the rooftop garden that was perfect for our ceremony. We felt that the hotel offered more than any other venue we had seen, and it was also convenient for all our guests.
