An Elegant Achnagairn Estate Wedding
Jennifer + Chris’s Achnagairn Estate Wedding
HIGHLIGHTS FILM
Tell us all about you! What do you do? How do you spend your free time? What's important in life?
So I (Jennifer) am a Legal Counsel and trainee solicitor, qualifying next year and Chris is a Project Manager. We both work for the same company, an oil and gas service provider in Aberdeen (its how we met). We spend our time doing normal couple stuff, we love socialising with friends and spending the weekends having BBQs or meals out. Chris is an avid runner and I try (operative word being try) go to the gym. We try to enjoy life and Chris is definitely one for enjoying the moment and thinking positively.
Why did you decide to capture your Achnaigairn Estate wedding on video?
I think a video captures a lot which photographs don't. My parents had a wedding video and when they watch it back, it reminds them of stuff that happened they had forgot about. We really like the candid nature of videos too, and that they are less staged then photographs. Given that it is a busy day for us, we want to be able to look back and see what we missed.
Why did you choose Amber Tree Filmhouse to film your wedding?
We have a friend who was maid of honour at her sisters wedding at the venue and absolutely loved the short edit of the day. We also thought it would be beneficial having a videographer who has visited the venue before and is familiar with it.
Tell me all about the proposal! Spare no detail, I want to hear it all!
Chris: I knew back in May of 2017 I wanted to marry Jennifer (the proposal at least, the married bit would heavily depend on the answer). I adopted support from Jennifer’s best friend (and now maid of honour) Sophie to assist me in the search for an engagement ring. One weekend when we were down in Glasgow visiting Sophie, Jennifer popped out to catch up with a uni pal (Nell) while I was fitting some lights in Sophie’s new flat. As soon as the door closed Sophie and I headed in to the Argyll Arcade, to go to place for jewellery and had a look. The “mission” went completely undetected by Jennifer and she didn’t even see it as being odd that when she phoned us with an update on her plans we were already in the city centre having a wee beverage.
This was one of many discreet chats Sophie and I had over the months, looking and changing my mind and eventually settling on the ring I liked and thought Jennifer would too, all the with seal of approval from Sophie. Our emails and delete after reading messages were all tagged with the title “CR” which stood for “Code Rock”, i.e. engagement ring.
A few weeks before the proposal, I came up with a story that Jennifer and I should perhaps take a wee break just for some quality time together. I suggested the same place we went for our first proper date, Crieff. Jennifer was none-the-wiser and we booked the trip for the end of March.
I then had to make my excuses to talk to Ian (Jennifer’s dad) to, in the traditional fashion, ask for his permission. Now on many an occasions Ian has been very kind and lent me the odd tool from time to time. So I said I needed to head round to ask him for a favour. When I got there to see him, it was just him and Jennifer’s brother Andrew at home. We chatted about the usual, chainsaws and DIY. Unbeknown to me, Andrew had sussed the reason for my visit but kept quiet. So eventually I got round to it and asked Ian. I think I caught him off guard because his response was, “Aye, no problem.”
In the mean time I was becoming more and more concerned about the fact the ring delivery was running a little behind schedule (It was due to arrive at my parents’ house, wand it only arrived the day before we left for Crieff).
So we drove down to Crieff in my car, and I had the engagement ring in the glove box of the car (where it had been for 3 days….I thought the safest place to hid it… Jennifer was shocked when she learnt about this afterwards). When we got to Crieff we went out for a nice dinner and I suggested we should go for a forest walk in the morning before going out for lunch. The next morning I went out for a run to scope out where would be the perfect, private and romantic spot. So that’s what happened we went for a walk. I had this speech all planned out, but every time I started trying to make my speech, Jennifer would agree, interrupt and take over the discussion, for example:
Chris: “We get on don’t we?”
Jennifer: “Do you know what, we DO get on…. And do you know why I think we get on……. etc, etc, etc”.
It was clear she didn’t have a clue what was coming! So after three or four attempts, I just had to cut to the chase, interrupt her back and say, “…and with that in mind, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me.”
Now for someone, who usually likes terms and conditions and wants to carefully examine the fine print, conversely in this instance, Jennifer just blurted out “YES”. Job done.
Why did you choose Achnagairn Estate as your venue? What made it special to you?
We attended a friends wedding at the venue a month after our engagement and fell in love with it. We were keen to have a weekend wedding, and wanted a venue big enough to house everyone from the Friday to the Monday. We spent a few weekends viewing several venues across Scotland, but always came back to Achnagairn. Plus that ballroom! Gorgeous!
